Happiness.

If there is anything that every person is looking for irrespective of country, religion, caste is HAPPINESS. The one thing which we always want is to be happy. Everything comes after that and so it is important for us to know to be happy.

There was a wrong notion that happiness is something which we can acquire after we do this and after we do that. But thanks to all the spiritual gurus and all the self-help books that came to the market which made people realise it is an inside job. There are lots of researches being done on this topic because it is something someone is looking for.

I believe that I am a happy person and I always try to understand why people around me are not happy. Its the happy people who are more productive at work and are successful in their life and it is never the other way round. If you look around you will see someone who is making more money than you, getting a much luxurious car than you own but the research say that they just don't add to happiness unless you are happy inside.

With Finland and Denmark acing it at the World Happiness Index it is important to understand what makes them special. If it was always about being developed countries then it had to be The United States of America that had to be on top but its at No. 19.There are lot of factors that contribute to this index like:

1) GDP per capita
2)Social Support
3) Life Expectancy
4)Freedom to Make Life Choices
5) Generosity
6) Perception of Corruption.

There are certain things that effect externally in this report but if you look into happiness in the smallest things you can always be a happy country. With India's ranking at 140 we have a long way to go. Some of the things we can do to make sure we are happy and contended  which I believe works wonders are :

1) Gratitude: If you are a grateful person then you are a happy person. The more you are grateful the more you are attracted to things you are grateful for. Giving thanks to the smallest things creates an attitude of gratitude which will take you a long way.

2)Doing what you love or love what you do : Give your 100% percent in whatever you do and do it with all the love and when you do it look into the bigger picture. I work as a Human Resource Manager in an IT company and I always tell people you just don't create website or do just programming you run business for someone by creating the best website. Look always into the larger cause and you will find meaning in it.

3)Take time for yourself : Having a me time for yourself is important to rejuvenate. Give time for your hobby or whatever you love to do.It is very important to be comfortable with yourself to be a happier person. Your happiness should never be dependent on the other person.

4) Read / Watch only positive information: We often complain that the amount of negative information we receive is more than the positive and the ones who are supposed to be blamed are us. The more negative information we consume the more they produce.Shun from such information and focus on the more positive aspect. The more you look into positive information the more you find it. The lesser the negative information is consumed the lesser they produce. If you want to change anything then change yourself first.

 5) Keep your circle positive : You turn out to be like the people you hang out with. If you hang out with gossip mongers you turn out to be one, if you hang out with people who love to discuss negative news then you turn out to be one. Hang out with people who will give a positive aspect towards life. Cut off from negativity.

There is a concept called Hygge which means Danish art of happiness and this is what Finland and Denmark boasts of for being the contributor to their happiness. When i started reading about this seemed like what I have been already doing about loving the coziness ,relaxing with a hot cup of coffee/hot chocolate. I am reading more about it in the book named - " The little book of Hygge" by Meik Wiking who is the CEO of  Happiness Research Institute.

I will be writing more about it in my next blog.
